When you are invited by Bonhams to assess a complete guitar collection prior to the upcoming sale at auction it is a bit daunting, especially when it is the entire Peter Green Collection. The collection was an eclectic range of guitars, mandolins, Turkish lutes and amps, so it was no surpirise I had to spend quite a bit of time across the two sites of Knightsbridge, London and Oxford. But once my trusted screwdriver came out of the box, all nerves disappeared and each one became a fabulous exploration.
Peter Green bought items simply because they took his fancy, he may have liked the colour, or he may have just liked the strange qualities i.e The Gibson V2 which he called a ‘Devilistic Guitar’.
There were over 150 guitars in the auction, plus effects pedals, amps and a whole host of other artifacts. I am contemplating dedicating an entire book to the Peter Green Collection but for now, here are a few pics.
